Meet Kevin Wilson: The Host of Our Smoky Mountain Music Show

Meet Kevin Wilson: The Host of Our Smoky Mountain Music Show

For more than 16 years, Kevin Wilson has been a beloved member of the Country Tonite family. As the master of ceremonies, Kevin sets the tone for the show and provides seamless transitions between each musical number. From his hilarious banter with Bubba “The Redneck Ranger” to his heartfelt monologues about what Country Tonite is all about, Kevin is truly the heart and soul of our Smoky Mountain music show.

In addition to his hosting duties, Kevin is one of Country Tonite’s lead vocalists. Anyone who has heard Kevin perform “This Old Boy” or “When I Get Where I’m Going” can attest that Kevin has an incredibly powerful and emotive voice.

As part of our “Meet the Country Tonite Cast” series, we have put together a short article all about Kevin.

An Accidental StarKevin Wilson in a Patriotic suit at Country Tonite in the Smoky Mountains.

Kevin Wilson never set out to be a musician. Unlike Country Tonite’s youth performers, Willow Osborne and Shelton Tison, Kevin was not an early bloomer. It wasn’t until Kevin was well into his teens that he took the stage for the first time. Kevin’s mother entered him into a talent contest at the local 4-H, and Kevin was green as could be. When Kevin performed a song by the band Alabama at the contest, he just sang along with the record. It wasn’t until after the show that Kevin learned that you could purchase instrumental versions of songs!

Kevin Hits the Road

Once Kevin caught the showbiz bug, there was no stopping him! In the early stages of his career, Kevin performed in Fiesta, TX and at the now defunct Opryland USA theme park in Nashville, TN. When Opryland closed, Kevin moved to Pigeon Forge and sang in a variety show at Governor’s Crossing. In 2000, Kevin was hired as the host of Country Tonite, and the rest, as they say, is history.

A Home at Country Tonite

Country Tonite was a natural home for Kevin because he embodies the values we stand for: Faith, Family, and Freedom. Kevin is a deeply religious man, and he loves performing in the gospel section of our Smoky Mountain music show.

Another part of the show that is very near and dear to Kevin’s heart is Country Tonite’s tribute to veterans. Kevin’s family has a long history of military service, from his grandfather, who landed on the beaches of Normandy, to his father, who did two tours in Vietnam, to this cousins, who served in Afghanistan. Having the opportunity to recognize the veterans in the Country Tonite audience and personally shake their hands is Kevin’s favorite part of the show.
